Stephen Randall

by Sarah Judson January 27, 2014

On Carl's last trip, he enjoyed meeting architect, urban planner and former combat artist Stephen Randall in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Here is a link to some sketches he did during the Viet Nam War, using felt pen, acrylic and ink. There is also a gallery of batik paintings from the same time period. He also paints in oils, watercolor and pastel. The plein air watercolor below is from a trip to Albuquerque that he wrote about in his blog. He is a member of the South Dakota Artists Network, where you can see more of his paintings, including some larger oil paintings that were done for Sanford Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, this watercolor of Old Main on the University of South Dakota campus (right) and this charcoal and pastel sketch done inside the Sioux Falls Airport: "The Grand opening of Sioux Falls Airport remodeling included artists painting and sketching during the event. I sketched the pizza concession on the main concourse."
