Jane Chapin

by Sarah Judson October 21, 2013

Last week Carl enjoyed meeting Jane Chapin, a nationally recognized artist who began her art career in Berwick, Pennsylvania, sketching and painting the people and landscapes that surrounded her. A year as a foreign exchange student in Argentina broadened her surroundings and began a lifelong love of travel. She returned to her home state to study Fine Arts and Art Education at Kutztown University, and received her BS in Art Education in 1978. She then followed her love of art and travel to El Salvador, where she worked as an art teaching volunteer in the Peace Corps, further reinforcing her connection with the richness & diversity of her visual surroundings. She has studied with Kim English, Richard Schmid, Albert Handell, Kenn Backhaus and John Budicin, among others. She recently completed a journey around the country, painting at least once in each state. This project, entitled Land of the Free, will be published in a book that will benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation which provides full scholarship grants and educational and family counseling to the surviving children of special operations personnel who die in operational or training missions, and immediate financial assistance to severely wounded special operations personnel and their families. Below is a beautiful little 6x8 painting from the project, done in New Jersey.
