Jeff Horn

Last week in Costa Mesa, Carl enjoyed meeting award-winning California landscape artist Jeff Horn . Jeff is an artist member of the California Art Club and a signature member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. He is known for his portrait series of the Homeless, which became a feature article for American Artist Magazine. His paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts, Laguna Canyon Foundation and the Pacific Club in Newport Beach. Shown above is a 10"x12" plein air painting entitled Clover Creek Waterfall. "I prefer to paint directly from nature and I love being outdoors where I can see, hear, feel, smell and even taste the scene around me. For me, the painting is a translation of nature and my experience of it. If I am successful, I take the viewer with me to feel the moment. I believe good painting is not a slavish copy of visual details, but an emotional response to a moment in nature." At left is a 10"x12" oil on linen painting entitled Out Bear Creek. Below is an 8"x12" oil sketch on linen entitled Adrift. About this one, Jeff says "I had mayby twenty minutes to grab some essential information before my light was gone. I feel that this study is complete even though it is indeed unfinished."
