Chad Smith

by Sarah Judson November 25, 2012

Chad Smith's  dramatic compositions and vivid values reflect his classical training. His most influential instruction came through private full-time atelier study with Douglas Flynt via Jacob Collins and the Water Street Atelier. Smith has also studied plein air and studio landscape painting with Kenn Backhaus and Marc Hanson. The 12"x9" painting shown above, entitled Grey Goose Sunset, received Honorable Mention at the Plein Air Easton event last July. He writes about the experience in his blog In addition to gallery work, commissioned studio work, and plein air events, Smith now spends his time with the greatest teacher of all outdoors painting from life "en plein air." "We all live under the same sun and the same sky so why not take a look at the work and see if we can share the moment."
