California artist Rebecca Ryland uses all media, from watercolor and pastel to acrylics and oils, and all sizes from a 6"x6" sketch up to murals several feet in each dimension. She also uses non-standard sizes, such as a landscape format three times longer than it is tall (see St. Lawrence River, watercolor, 29"x10", above) or a square format. Many of her works are more abstract than representational, even though they are inspired by the landscape (see below, Orange Roof - Redbuds, watercolor, 6"x6" and Fog, Russell Blvd., watercolor, 9"x12").
She participates in the Yolo County Art & Ag Project which cultivates a dialogue between artists, farmers, and the community to raise awareness of the importance of preserving farmlands and the visual arts in this section of the central valley, near Davis. She also has an intriguing Pinterest page, with images ranging from Richard Diebenkorn, Bonnard and Fairfield Porter to Georgia O'Keeffe, Margaret Vega and Kaffe Fassett. This painting is an acrylic mural measuring 5'x4' entitled Foothills Pine - Coastal Range:
