Remembering Ann Templeton

by Sarah Judson October 25, 2011

We were saddened to learn of the death last week of award-winning artist, popular teacher, author and juror Ann Templeton. Having studied with Sergei Bongart and Wolf Kahn, she wasn't afraid of bright colors. They were essential ingredients in her evocative paintings. "Thirty years ago my mindset became a focus - to thoroughly understand, breathe, smell and taste the landscape. A long painting endeavor began. It continues each day with new intensities, new subleties, new messages and new creations taking place. In the meantime I have come to understand the magnificent application of paint to a surface, and even more so have learned to enjoy the trip rather than the product. I wish to touch my viewer with some of the beauty that surrounds us - to let others understand some of my vision." Though we can no longer attend her workshops, her books and DVDs are available on her website and also at My Art Tutor. And there is still the landscape that inspired her.
