Joseph Paquet

by Sarah Judson August 08, 2011

Artist Joe Paquet paints and teaches both plein air and studio techniques in oils. The 8.5"x10" painting shown here is entitled Connections. He will be participating in Weekend with the Masters in Monterey, California, next month (September 7-10). He is also offering classes starting August 31 at his studio in St. Paul, Minnesota. In Cornwall, New York,  along with his friend and colleague Andrew Lattimore, he will be presenting a workshop on Composition & Design for painters (December 3-8). In January, 2012, he will be teaching a 5-day workshop on Catalina Island. He has also begun a collaborative project, called Rust & Roadsides, with plein air painter John Cosby which involves traveling to rust-belt towns and capturing their spirit before it disappears forever. On his home page, he has written a full-page open letter for all artists, addressing the issue of the uncertain economy: "No one knows better than you when you are on the right path. The need to say something is a far cry from the need to be heard. Work ethic, love of the job, proximity and opportunity all play a role in developing a life in art. Be clear about these and adjust your life to maximize your gifts."
