Jim Carson, plein air painter

Award-winning North Carolina artist
Jim Carson has been painting in both oils and acrylics for over 20 years. Living in North Carolina, he has access to the mountains and the ocean as well as distinctive cityscapes, landscapes and still lifes.
He believes his previous occupation as a lawyer and mediator carries over into his new vocation. Cutting through to the essence, simplifying, and finding balance are valueable practices in both painting and in mediation.
He will be participating in several plein air events this summer in Cashiers, North Carolina; Easton, Maryland; Tryon, North Carolina and in Curacao, off the coast of Venezuela.
He is also offering several workshops this season in Saluda and Cashiers, North Carolina.
This one, entitled "Painting Fast and Loose / Eliminating the Unnecessary" starts tomorrow, June 2nd. Students will learn how to see large shapes and apply paint quickly and confidently.
"Once you see the true colors in reality, painting from any other source does not inspire the same emotion. I am inspired by the shapes, colors and spontaneity of nature"
