Tim Solliday

by Sarah Judson May 04, 2011

We enjoyed a phone call recently from well-known California plein air painter Tim Solliday. He called to order a few pieces of equipment and ended up giving us some interesting conversation and tips. He mentioned the relatively new Irvine Museum of California impressionism and plein air painting. They offer not only exhibits but also books, DVDs, instruction for local schools and traveling exhibits. He also mentioned the new book California Light by Jean Stern, the executive director of the Irvine Museum. Tim Solliday is a Signature Member of the California Art Club and an honorary member of the Laguna Art Association. He grew up in southern California and studied there with Theodore Lukits, who gave his students a classical atelier education based on accurate drawing and on light, shadow and color. The sketch shown here is a 8 1/2" x 7 3/4" pastel entitled Pasadena Palms and Clouds.
